Gabriel Trumpet (nut rolls)(Grandma Ethel Fisher’s Recipe) “Horn Cookies” Cream the cream cheese, butter, and flour to make the dough: ½ lb cream cheese ½ lb butter = 2 sticks 3 C flour Refrigerate the dough for 1 to 24 hours. Mix the filling - optionally directly in a food processor: 1 lb finely ground walnuts (~2.5 C whole walnuts) 1 C sugar 4 Tbsp milk 3 slightly beaten egg whites Refrigerate the filling for 1 to 24 hours. Using confectioners sugar to manage sticking, on a firm surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. On an edge strip of dough add a line of filling (like a fat pencil). Roll the dough around filling to form a filled cylinder. Cut the cylinder away from the remaining dough. “Smear” the dough edge to seal the cookies and into ~ 2 inch cookies Repeat until all dough and filling are formed into cookies Bake 375 deg F, seam side down ~ 9 minutes until cookies are slightly tan on edges, Dust cooled cookies with confectioners sugar.
