The Impact of Electricity and Healthcare Delivery - with Lamine Savadogo

Description

Vivian Kobusingye Birchall and the President- Madison Energy Systems, Lamine Savadogo talk about the impact o f electricity on the health sector and health care delivery. Lamine is also the Global Ambassador for the Edison Electric Institute and has worked in the sector for over 20 years providing technological, financial and business intermediation between the United States and Africa. Many Communities in Sub Saharan Africa and other low income settings (including conflict areas) experience voltage drops and power outages causing serious challenges in the health sector. It affects vaccine storage, interrupts surgical procedures and limits the chances of survival for premature babies,. This is possibly worsened by inflated Prices in investment in Africa’s energy sector to compensate for the perception of risk, which keeps investors away, among other things. The two sectors - Health and Energy (Electricity) in subsaharan Africa also suffer from poor planning and communication between and among the different stake holders. In this interview, we talk about these issues and more, and explore areas for strategic intervention
