Description
On July 6, I travelled to DC to attend the annual Global Health Catalyst Summit at which I am the Media and Diaspora Coordinator, https://www.globalhealthcatalystsummit.org/about-1 using my ActonTV media platform to facilitate conversations with the the Summit leadership, collaborators and key players, share information about new and on-going research and innovations and updates about future events. About the summit: “The Global Health Catalyst (GHC) summit is a premier yearly event dedicated to catalyzing high impact international collaborations and initiatives to eliminate disparities in the USA and globally. The main focus of the summit is on the rising scourge of non-communicable diseases like cancer, mental health, pain and cardiovascular diseases which are severely impacting global health and economic development.” https://www.globalhealthcatalystsummit.org/ This year, the summit held at Johns Hopkins – Sibley Memorial Conference Center and online, was focused on “The Cancer Moonshot: Advancing Collaborative Action for Global Health and Development ” . About the Cancer Moonshot: “On February 2, 2022, President Biden announced a reignition of the Cancer Moonshot, highlighting new goals: to reduce the death rate from cancer by at least 50 percent over the next 25 years and improve the experience of people and their families living with and surviving cancer—and, by doing these and more, to end cancer as we know it today. By focusing on areas of cancer research that are most likely to benefit patients as a result of new investment, the Cancer Moonshot has brought together a large community of investigators and clinicians who are dedicated to expediting research to improve the lives of people with cancer and their loved ones.” Source: https://www.cancer.gov/.../key…/moonshot-cancer-initiative Relationship between the global health catalyst program and the White House’s Cancer Moonshot: The global health catalyst summit was created to eliminate disparities in cancer and non-communicable diseases. This aligns with the goals of the cancer moonshot. At this summit, the Biden Administration, through a statement by Dr. Catharine Young from The White House’s Office of Science and Tech Policy, formally committed to work with the global health catalyst program, to extend this equity in cancer prevention and care, globally. #GlobalHealthCatalystSummit #VivianBirchall #CancerMoonshot
